A few months ago, I snagged this beauty from the 'Crew:
| J. Crew Blythe Blouse in Pale Graphite |
Now, like the fab Gigi of Gigi's Gone Shopping would say, SMACKDOWN! The Crew version is 100% silk, vs. 100% polyester in the Old Navy version. I didn't try the Old Navy one since I was in a rush and I am yet undecided as to whether I'm ok with Poly and her sister (Ester). I do admit I had to do a double take, especially since my Blythe just went out of circulation last week and it was my favorite blouse. Wah wah wah. The good news is that mommies out there that get stuff on their blouses from their kiddos will be able to throw this version in the wash vs. the very costly drycleaning.
As an aside, I just received my new Blythe in dot (the new version in Soft Sand) and when I unwrapped it, my husband touched it, snorted and proclaimed: "Low quality silk, I love it" (with all the sarcasm a scientist can muster).
So, what do you think? Would you compromise 'quality'* for cuteness?
*J Crew = 'quality'
Wow, that s a good dupe. I have the Blythe version, and I hate to admit that I have yet to wear it. Sticky toddler hands. :P might have to check out the ON version.

DeleteI know, I totally had to do a double take! I hope it works out for you. Saving your silk for fancy times seems like a good trade off though :-)
DeleteFYI, some JCAs have reported success washing their J Crew silk, so many sticky toddler can be remedied with a front loader/wash bag or a quick hand wash.
Thank you so much for visiting!
I missed out on the J.Crew version, but I'm happy to know that there is a duplicate at ON. Thanks for sharing. I'm definitely going to pick this one up this weekend. Sometimes i compromise quality for cuteness on trendier pieces.

Oooooh, I'd love to see how this looks on you!
DeleteSmAaAaAaAcKdOwn! lol I have that set up in a post, but will just linky on over here when I put it up. As an owner of both blouses, I fully support the ON version. The J Crew blouse is thin silk, but is thin as your husband observes. I appreciate that when layering, but not when wanting to wear the blouse solo. I have the ON version in the camel color. I generally dislike poly, but make exceptions. It has to fit and feel right. The ON one does. I went to a M to get a nice, loose flow. I wouldn't say it's a quality compromise. There is tremendous value in being able to wash clothes right after getting baby spills on it.
ReplyDeleteThat's sad about the rip on your blouse. I'm not surprised, though. ;)
Eloquently stated, my friend. I guess my task for tomorrow is to head to Old Navy and hand over my credit card. It really looked lovely on the hanger!
DeleteI bought a couple of ON tops in poly over the weekend (pop over with rolled sleeves - Gigi and sewpetitegal reviewed them for $4. It was so nice to just throw them in the wash and dryer and not have to iron them afterwards. Definitely fits in my lifestyle at the moment...
DeleteWow, $4 is a great deal! I have to go take a look! In the spirit of oversharing, poly sometimes makes me sweat. I may need to dust off the baby powder in the name of fashion!
